Message from the Chair
I believe that good communication is essential for the well being and prosperity of all organizations especially academic institutions like UAMS. It will help achieve the individual as well as the common goals of all employees. I am a neuroscientist and not a communication specialist. But, I know that a human being is a multicellular organism of 30 trillion cells that are constantly communicating via neurotransmitters, hormones, and other chemicals released in synapses or in the blood circulation. This type of communication will help ensure the coordination of activity of all cells toward achieving common goals and it helps the body react to external stimuli in a coordinated fashion. Faculty can transmit messages face-to-face, by messaging, or via electronic and printed publications. It is important that employees do not get overwhelmed and spammed by too much unnecessary information. At the same time, it is important that the right information is transmitted to the right employees in order to optimally perform their job and to the right administrators so that they can take well-informed decisions on important issues. Achieving good and transparent communication will promote faculty engagement, create a positive attitude, and enhance the morale of faculty and all employees. The Academic Senate Communication Committee is aiming at promoting a good communication. We would like to hear from faculty members who have important stories and messages to transmit, and we are welcoming their article contribution for a potential Faculty Newsletter that we are planning to launch soon.
